Welcome to Port Townsend Resort, Rich With Tradition and History...

Spring is here, the docks are in...and there is great anticipation for fishing and ATV season. The trails open May 1.  We have cottage availability for summer and fall.  Call us at 715-850-2777 to check dates.

Construction of our newest cottage, Sunrise Shore, is complete.  Photos can be accessed here. As with each of our new cottages, we think you will be impressed by the distinct design that will embrace our unmatched view of the Townsend Flowage from our 400+ feet of frontage.  We hope the addition will help satisfy the changing needs of Port Townsend Resort guests.

The Northern Oconto County area offers you beautiful scenery....800 acres of lakes right from your dock...hundreds of miles of hiking and ATV/UTV trails...and not a single stop light!

It all began in the spring of 1946…Americans were returning home victorious from the war. Northern Wisconsin, long dominated by logging and railroads, was being discovered by people seeking a place to relax and get away from the pressures of daily life.

Northern Oconto County offered great beauty to visitors from near and far. A couple of Lithuanian descent, Tony and Anna Bagocus, shared a dream of providing a perfect destination for hunters and fishermen to hang their hat after a long day…a place to wet their whistle…and a fine place to dine. Less than a mile from Chicago & Northwestern’s Townsend railroad siding, just around the bend from Mielke’s ice cream store, that dream became a reality.

Eight families later, Port Townsend Resort continues to provide unmatched views of Oconto County’s second largest inland lake, the Townsend Flowage.

Port Townsend Resort offers five cottages which provide a dock with unmatched access to the sandy shores of the Townsend Flowage. Since 2002, Port Townsend has been operated by Jim & Karla Schuessler.

Legend has it that Hillcrest Lodge, located across the street from the rental cottages, has one year-round resident, “Dr. Fred”. Your hosts can provide more details of his haunting encounters.

In the spirit of the great resort stewards of the Northwoods which include names such as Tonneman, Erler, Popp, Baril, Carlson, Stevens, Cannon, Nelson, Richlen, Wyman and Schuessler…we bid you a warm welcome to “The Hillcrest”.

Port Townsend Resort is located on the 800+ acre Townsend Flowage near Townsend, Wisconsin. The Townsend Flowage is a full recreation lake, offering phenomenal waterskiing, jet skiing, fishing and swimming in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. Northern Oconto County offers a wide variety of opportunity for recreation, with miles and miles of hiking trails, ATV and snowmobile trails and just an excellent place to relax. Townsend is snowmobile friendly offering open snowmobile routes right to your cabin door. Townsend offers great snow in the wintertime, since it is located in one of the highest elevations in the State of Wisconsin.

Townsend is also very ATV and UTV friendly--all Townsend roads are open to ATV’s and UTV's, meaning you can drive your ATV/UTV right to your cottage.

Port Townsend Resort offers several cabins and cottages, complete with kitchen, deck, and private shower. Our newest cottages, “Cathedral Pines” and "Moonlight Bay" and the "Sunrise Shores in addition to the Nicolet and Sunset Bay each offer a beautiful fireplace to help get warm after a day of recreation.  As a result of recent upgrades all of our cottages are each equipped with a fireplace.

You won’t have to travel far for a meal. Cabins and cottages are located near Hillcrest restaurant, located just over the Nicolet bridge with a commanding southern view of the Townsend Flowage. Watch the boats (or in winter snowmobiles) travel under the Nicolet bridge that connects the North and South portions of the lake. Enjoy a beverage as the staff at the Hillcrest prepares your table. Choose from an extensive variety of dining options including Prime Rib, Fresh Walleye, Broasted Chicken and Lake Perch.
